A reconfigurable Very Large Containment Grid facility located at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. Construction of BALCONY was authorized under the 1992 Codicil to the European JIFCE Conference Agreement, though it didn't open until 2002.

BALCONY has been the site for some very illuminating experiments suggesting that the creation of a Continental Large Ward Array (CLWA) may be feasible.

One can imagine the difficulty the organization has with conducting vital, secret national-defense research at a shared multinational site. If you're one of the Laundry's top theorists or computational demonologists, you aren't sent to CERN. We have reason to believe that many of our European partners are also keeping their best minds at home, conducting research away from the covetous eyes of the rest of the JIFCE partners.
